In both Sweden and the EU, there is a recurring discussion about the use of American cloud services.

In these debates, it is not uncommon for one side to argue that there are legal obstacles, whereupon the other side claims that the right IT security resolves the legal obstacle. In the end, no one is any wiser about what the rules actually are.

After far too many such discussions and a continued state of confusion, I started wondering why the issue is so hard to discuss. One answer is of course that the party putting forward their argument has some sort of stake, for example that it benefits the person’s employer. But even if a party is not arguing intellectually honestly and instead argues from their special interest, the problem remains that very few seem able to make both a competent and complete assessment. Note that I am not claiming I can either.

Géant OCRE IaaS+ 2020 is coming to an end

November 30 is the last day to sign contracts under the OCRE IaaS+ 2020 framework agreement.

The framework agreement will be replaced by a new one with essentially the same scope. As Safespring understands it, the new framework agreement will enter into force on February 1 at the earliest. If the procurement is appealed, the start date will likely be postponed.

For all organizations covered by the framework agreement, we recommend issuing a call-off this autumn to secure the delivery of cloud services and consultants. A contract signed before the end of November can have a term of up to four years.

The European Commission’s latest decision on data transfers to the United States has once again drawn attention to the legal and technical challenges faced by European organizations.

Safespring: A key player in Europe’s new scientific cloud platform worth €32 million

Safespring, as a subcontractor to Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC), is proud to announce our role on the winning team for the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) procurement, an initiative aimed at enhancing and facilitating scientific research collaboration in Europe. The contract has an estimated value of approximately €32 million over three years.
